Teddington Lock 1969

Teddington Lock 1969, originally uploaded by Pig Sty Ave.

My aunt and uncle lived on a boat "the Lindsey" on the Thames at Teddington in the 1960s. We used to visit them and stayed in another boat alongside, "The Ballerina". It was great fun. In those days, Eel Pie Island just downriver was an important alternative music venue, and you'd have hippies rowing around, the smell of dope across the water...

That's my sister Sharon and me, with Dad rowing. And I'm certain that's just a cigarette.

  1. Now that is a lovely picture. I love older photos, and how sometimes they just seem to capture the entire essence of the moment! I think it must be something of an afinity for black and white photos... in any case, thank you Gary for sharing!

  2. garry,
Your dad would have gone WAY faster if he would have cast off that chain. (not the cig, the huge iron chain)
