Learning to Play The Piano VII

According to play.com, the keyboard was despatched yesterday, and should be here in three to five days. The software's coming from Canada , and will be a week or so longer.   I imagine able I will be able to hold my own in a wee band, five to ten years from now .    You know the sort of thing, older musicians of variable quality, knocking out jazz standards of a Sunday afternoon.  That'll be me.  At any rate, I want to be able to do The Piano Has Been Drinking and Stardust at parties in a year or two's time.

Which is quite clever, really, because I'm absurdly flattered, I'm putting up links to blip.fm in Failbook and Twatter, AND I'll probably keep going back every day for the next 14 days...  I need to get out more, don't I?

Little Anthony and the Imperials

Image
I've been listening the last few days to Blue Valentine, and the Hooker from Minneapolis refers to Little Anthony and the Imperials , (she still has that record, but someone stole her record player, how do you like that?).   It would indeed be perfect music for dancing to with a young woman who has, perhaps, taken a few wrong turns in her career.

Zebrakeys .  Whilst I'm champing at the bit to get started...

A Nazi Netty

I wonder if these lads even know what a "khazi" is?  Apparently, Gestapo khazi was a phrase of Peter Cook's.  I was just thinking, the Geordie for it would be Nazi Netty.  Which sums up a call centre I worked in, once.

St Ethelreda's

Summer will see us mostly in London, and our oysters will take us here of a Sunday, perhaps.

I seem to recall she's been awol in the past , but this time it's gone beyond a joke, she's been away all month.  So I went to investigate, and at first all the links were dead.  Click on here , and you might get to a holding page.  Click on here and you should get to their Twatter page, which - as of the time of blogging this, - was last updated on 4th March.  So that's three weeks.  I fear the worst, but will keep her on the sidebar for now, who knows. Should I get out more?

Holy living fuck!

I wanted to use this article  in the work I'm doing, but we can't be swearing in exams.

Doncaster v Newcastle

This will not be an easy match for us.  It will not have been made easier by training ground fisticuffs , ffs.

I bought this album on vinyl when it first came out in 1974.  Owning it was de ri-fucking-gueur amongst teenaged Bowie fans at the time, which, to give us credit, shows that we were neither daft nor besotted of Bowie, because we also realised the worth of at least one of the musicians he was working with. It's been a bit hard to come by until a re-issue end of last year, and it's taken me all this time to get around to ordering from an internet retailer.  It wore the stylus out back in 1974.  I seem to recall that I actually liked it better than my favourite Bowie albums at the time, Ziggy Stardust and Alladin Sane, though I couldn't swear to that, now.  But he's certainly never been any kind of musical poor-relation of Bowie, not in our house anyway.  I don't know when or how I parted with the vinyl, but it feels like it was a long, long time ago.  It arrived in the post this morning and listening to it after, maybe, thirty years is, frankly, trippy.  Like Salvi

Peyote: The Next Generation

I sowed 25 peyote seeds back in 2004.  We've had a lot of house moves since then, and I've been away a lot, but even with those excuses in mind, I could have done better.  I ended up with seven semi-mature ones, and put them in two pots, three in one, four in t'other. In the pot of three, one of them is doing very well, at last, and is growing over an inch above ground, and is nearly as fat.  The two others in that pot have pulled down their tops level with the soil, which is what they seem to do as they strive to put down a tap root.  Of the other pot, one has certainly died, another is on its way out, and the other two may pull through.   So I might end up with five grown-up buttons sometime in the next year or so. Meanwhile, I'm going to have another go.  I've been looking out for a good deal on some seeds: Magic Garden do 20 seeds for €3.55 , though you have to spend at least five Euros with them, AND they charge €4 for p&p. Pot Seeds are doing 20 seed

I liked this article.   All part of the emblazoned tapestry that is NUFC.

A List of Countries by Size in Square Miles

This would come in handy for teaching comparatives and superlatives.  You could also tie it in with the World Cup.  Or something.

Living in Hope and Keeping Things Harmonious Indoors

Living in hope that Newcastle will be promoted, (though squandering their current lead would not be beyond them, forty-odd years of disappointment tell us), I'm looking at watching football online on the PC.  This will enable me to keep out of the road and not interfere with River City. I've not got time to check out the various sites just now, so this is a note-to-self to do so later.  Here's a non-exhaustive list of links to be going on with: http://www.watchlivefootball.me.uk/ http://www.live-internet-football.com/ http://www.free-football.tv/ http://www.oleolefootball.com
