The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. And the Muppet.
Dear All
Firstly let me say a big thank you for your wonderful efforts at Aeronautical University – as I understand all the training is going brilliantly well – thank you for this it is really appreciated.
MC, DoS, The Muppet and myself have had a brainstorming meeting to try and resolve the accommodation problems – we are working on it this morning - and hopefully we will be able to improve your situation. We really don’t want you to be unhappy whilst you’re undertaking this project so we’ll do our best to help you.
Speak to you as soon as we have more news.
Katherine
"Katherine" is some other kind of manager. This email was sent to all three teachers this morning. It's difficult to convey the anger that it caused. Which appeared to suprise DoS when I spoke to him a few minutes later. He's actually a very nice bloke and good at his job, but spending an hour in a "brainstorming meeting" had unfortunately robbed him of his ability to speak meaningful English: he spoke of "solving the problem", "listening to what you're saying", of "being in discussion with [the University]".
I had told him last night, and I told him again this morning, either put us into the management suite where we stayed last week (and which, crucially, has excellent internet access so that we can work with the wiki and the blogs in the evening), OR just bloody leave us alone. They've been and gone and done exactly what I asked them not to, and that's to bother us with a load of hot air.
Anyhow, I've since had a call from DoS, and we are indeed moving back into the management suite next week.
As usual, learning proceeds despite the management.
A brainstorming session? What, with spidergrams and everything?
ReplyDeleteHonestly, the shite 'management' come out with sometimes...
The ceaseless insult of one's intelligence. FFS.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of a lecturer I had at university. A girl on the course was being kicked out of her flat and had nowhere to stay. She told him this in a tutorial.
ReplyDelete"You're an English student. You can sleep under the stars," he told her.
