Not Yet Having Fun With A Ukulele
New strings are en route. I've come to the conclusion that it simply cannot be tuned with the cheap strings that come with it.

Colour. There's that cliche in movies or TV when someone falls in love, or smokes pot for the first time, and everything goes from monochrome to colour. The Wizard of Oz moment. B&W's fine, it's just time to move on. Which makes discovering these formulae really very fortuitous. I've got some of those chemicals for B&W developing anyway. C41 developing, playing around in a sink full of warm water is the sort of innocent fun you don't get much in adulthood. Thanks to this guy , in this Flickr DIY Color Group thread for passing on the craic. I've been trying to get that on and off for years. My mate cliffdotmac flickrmailed me tonight and said he was giving up on film, because of the expense. Which is fair enough, if you've shelled out for a DSLR and its all-singing-and-dancing lenses, I can see how film would feel like and extra expense. i don't mean to be a damp squib... but i'm not sure it's got anything to do with the strings. I could be wrong but that's where the smart money is....
ReplyDeleteWell, we'll see, but I wouldn't put money on it being anything else. Think about it. Technically, in the whole structure of a stringed instrument, the strings will go out of tune first. OK, the materials and workmanship will not be of the finest, but it's not as if it's held together with chewing gum.

ReplyDeleteExactly. Even a cheap uke isn't going to lose its tunefulness for any other reason than the strings. Anyhow, I've got the new strings to put on it this afternoon, and if it still doesn't tune up, I'll be your bitch.
And never mind your hundred stringed instruments. I remember when you sold that fiddle to Cal to buy drink.
Or did you only try to sell it to him? And what did he want it for anyway, remember the size of the hands on the fucker? Doubt he'd ever be able to play it.

i remember us going around to the fuckers garage on several occasions trying to get money out of him so we could go to the pub. i can't remember getting the money but i'm sure i did... wouldn't have let that one go...
It's in tune, but the G's a bit twangy. So I'll make you the odd cup of tea.
