A newish computer and peripherals shop in the former garage on Albert Rd, where Hebburn merges in to Jarrow. I bought a Bearpaw 2400TA Plus scanner there on my last holiday at home. It was cheap, less than £40. Will it run with Vista? Oh yes, no trouble, just go on Mustek's website. They'd also order a laptop, to be ready the next day, for only £340. Splendid. I told them it was really important that it was ready the next day: this was Thursday, and I was flying back to Libya on the Saturday, early. "It's as good as here," said the man. I rang them on the Friday to see if it was there. "I've been trying to get in touch with you. We can't do it." Ach, well, these things happen... I was in the Town, anyway, and got a Samsung Curry's were doing for £399. And now I'm back in Libya with an utterly useless scanner. No way, no how, will the fucker run with Vista. I've been googling all evening trying to find a solution. There is...
i don't mean to be a damp squib... but i'm not sure it's got anything to do with the strings. I could be wrong but that's where the smart money is....
ReplyDeleteWell, we'll see, but I wouldn't put money on it being anything else. Think about it. Technically, in the whole structure of a stringed instrument, the strings will go out of tune first. OK, the materials and workmanship will not be of the finest, but it's not as if it's held together with chewing gum.
ReplyDeleteIf it IS the uke itself, well, I'm going to get a better one - they're lovely wee things, they way they fit into the hands.
??? "the strings will go out of tune first"??? what else is there to go out of tune?
ReplyDeleteonly going on what i know... i have owned several (probably hundred) stringed instruments. I have a couple of ukes... will have to photo them for you to drool over... soon.
??? "the strings will go out of tune first"??? what else is there to go out of tune?
ReplyDeleteExactly. Even a cheap uke isn't going to lose its tunefulness for any other reason than the strings. Anyhow, I've got the new strings to put on it this afternoon, and if it still doesn't tune up, I'll be your bitch.
And never mind your hundred stringed instruments. I remember when you sold that fiddle to Cal to buy drink.
Or did you only try to sell it to him? And what did he want it for anyway, remember the size of the hands on the fucker? Doubt he'd ever be able to play it.
ReplyDeletei just meant because it's a cheap uke it may never be in tune.. are you my bitch yet?
ReplyDeletecheck the pictures on the jerky blog.. and leave a comment, you'll be the first i think..
i remember us going around to the fuckers garage on several occasions trying to get money out of him so we could go to the pub. i can't remember getting the money but i'm sure i did... wouldn't have let that one go...
It's in tune, but the G's a bit twangy. So I'll make you the odd cup of tea.
ReplyDeleteThat Cal/your fiddle memory is a waiting for godot job, I've no fucking idea what happened. Better yet, I seem to actually remember having no idea what was happening.
