The Old Man has suggested we get a Rhode Island Red cockerel and a couple of Barred Plymouth Rock hens, and then breed our own Black Rock hybrids... Though this seems to suggest that you can't do that.
That is great that you are even considering doing this. I now purchase all of my meat from local farms. The meat tastes so much better. When I started doing this, I was amazed at how small the chicken pieces were. They just were not pumped full of steroids.
